A visibly upset Sir Elton John was forced to cut short a concert in New Zealand after he fell ill with walking pneumonia.

The 72-year-old musician lost his voice in the middle of his set at Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium on Sunday.

“I have lost my voice. I can’t sing,” Sir Elton said to the audience. “I have to go. I’m sorry.” Sir Elton seemed to have broken down in tears as he leaned on his piano and shook his head.

The crowd gave a rapturous ovation to the English singer as he walked off the stage, with the aid of several assistants.

Earlier in his set, Sir Elton told the crowd that he had been diagnosed with walking pneumonia on Sunday.

The concert was one of a number of New Zealand shows on the Sir Elton Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
